We’re here if you need support and advice on paying your rent, claiming benefits, trying to find other work and so on.
We’re also working hard to see how else we can help. To start with, we’re pledging an extra £150,000 for our communities, supporting charities and local groups as well as independent businesses - to maximise what’s already going on, as people do brilliant things to tackle the effects of COVID-19.
‘Pay it forward’ campaign
£50,000 towards the Crowdfunder ‘Pay it forward’ campaign. This has been set up to support local businesses, community projects, social enterprises, creatives and the self-employed to raise money to help maintain their business.
Crowdfunder raises money from numerous donors for one-off projects, by encouraging the community to get involved with fundraising. This could be around delivering food to the most vulnerable, offering hardship support or providing digital services to support wellbeing . We’re also encouraging relaunch events, such as a pub re-opening with a community event, and activities such as street parties after Covid-19.
Greenham Trust coronavirus emergency appeal
£50,000 for a new Sovereign Coronavirus Emergency Fund (using The Good Exchange platform), which focuses on organisations in West Berkshire and North Hampshire that can help in a number of ways during Covid-19, such as: helping older or vulnerable people; additional support for foodbanks; delivering meals; providing financial, employment and debt advice; mental health and counselling services; and support to the homeless.
Supporting other community organisations
We’re also awarding £50,000 to charities and community groups across the South and West of England which are supporting elderly, disadvantaged and vulnerable people through the Coronavirus pandemic. Community groups and charities can apply through the Good Exchange.
(Groups in West Berkshire and North Hampshire should apply through the Greenham Trust Fund above, where we’ve allocated our funding for these areas).
